      Well, this school year is off and running! It is going so fast that I haven't added any blogs yet!  We are flying right along here in 5th grade, and have been working on so much. Students have already learned the 50 US States and Capitals, major rivers and mountains, and are now studying Native Americans. With the new math series this year, we have finally fell into a routine and are working on multiplying decimals next week.
       We have Fall Break in one week (yay!), and we will end this 9 weeks with some required testing. Our Fall Festival will be November 4, from 5-7 (games/food) and the auction will start at 7:10.

Welcome Back

 Welcome Back!  I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing fall break. We are getting back into the swing of things this week. We have begun our Native American Unit in social studies learning about the Mound Builders, Ananazi People, Inuits, and the Aztecs this week. We have also began our fraction unit in math. Adding and subtracting fractions require many steps, so students may take home their Interactive Math Journal to help if needed. The back of their homework practice will always have a few examples to refer to also.
  Friday is Grandparents day. We are excited to have these special guests from 8:30 - 10:00.
  Next week is Red Ribbon Week.
Dress up days are;
Monday- Hat Day
Tuesday - Camo Day
Wednesday - School or Team shirt Day
Thursday - Pajama Day
Friday - Career Day

    So sorry for the delayed posts! I think I have the problem fixed now.  I have so much I want to share. My fabulous fifth graders have been busy. We are in week 5 of school now. They are working hard to master division with decimals, have learned the 50 states and capitals, and completed their How-To presentations. Some students have learned how to create IMovies too..which we plan to add to the blog!

Historical Wax Museum (April 30th)
This year was one of the best Wax Museums! Students worked very hard researching their historical figure, writing a research based biography, and even memorized their speeches.

Frazier Historical Museum  Louisville, Kentucky (February)

      Prior to this field trip, we had studied Colonial Life and what led to the American Revolution. On our trip, students participated in plays that demonstrated one of the causes of the American Revolution. Then the audience guessed which cause the script represented. After that, we saw an reinactment of Sybil Ludington ( an express rider during the American Revolution). Students absolutely LOVED this! Who knew, a women, actually rode further than Paul Revere to warn colonist that the British were coming.
Students also had time to tour the museum, seeing many cool artifacts.
